About Kingston, Ontario

Nicknamed the Limestone City, Kingston was established as the first capital of Canada in 1841. That title was short-lived, however, as Montreal was awarded the distinction in 1844. Kingston is located on the eastern end of Lake Ontario and marks the beginning of the St. Lawrence River. The city is a midway point between Toronto and Montreal and often attracts tourists as the Thousand Islands region is located just southeast of the city. It is also home to Queens University; founded in 1841, it is one of the oldest post-secondary schools in Canada and has over 25,000 student enrollments annually.
